A strong dental benefit plan is designed to encourage preventive care, help maintain your oral health and give you peace of mind that your basic dental needs are covered. Routine dental care can help reduce the risk of more complex oral health issues and decrease your long-term costs. According to the American Hygienists Association, every $1 spent on preventive care can save you almost $8 in long-term costs.
The Minnesota State Bar Association recognizes the importance of dental care, and that is why they are now offering dental coverage to members. Marsh U.S. Consumer and Delta Dental of Minnesota have come together to help offer an affordable dental plan to members and their families. It's also available as a high-value, low-cost fringe benefit to employees (and their families) of MSBA member firms where the firm is four or fewer employees.
Features of the plans include:
- A choice of two plan options
- Both provide 100% * coverage for preventive care with no waiting periods (exams, cleanings and fluoride treatments)
- Solid coverage for basic and major services such as fillings, sealants, crowns, extractions, dentures, etc.
- Freedom to see any dentist, with the greatest savings from network dentists
- An orthodontics program available as an option for covered dependent children (age 8-18)
- International emergency treatment automatically included

*Coverage at non-network dentists is subject our Maximum Amount Payable (MAP), which is the maximum amount Delta Dental will pay for a given procedure. The following example illustrates how this works
Network vs. non-network coverage on Plan B
In-network filling and sealant -- We pay 80%. You pay 20% of the MAP. Any covered charge over our MAP is waived by the dentist for the Delta Dental member.
Out-of-network filling and sealant -- We pay 80% of our MAP. You pay 20% of our MAP, plus any amount the dentist charges in excess of our MAP.

Employee Coverage
The plan is available to MSBA members (and their families) and to employees/families of MSBA member firms where the firm is four or fewer employees including the MSBA member. Firms with five or more members are eligible to purchase Delta Dental's group products.
Advantages of seeing a network dentist include no paperwork and lower out-of-pocket costs.
That's because our network dentists agree to accept our Maximum Amount Payable (MAP) as payment in full.

Answers about the plan, including eligibility, options, enrollment, customer service and more.
How do I enroll in the MSBA-endorsed Dental Plan?
You can enroll at anytime, provided you are a Minnesota resident and you are an MSBA member or an employee of an MSBA member firm that has four or fewer employees. To enroll you must mail or fax the completed enrollment application to:
Marsh U.S. Consumer, a service of Seabury & Smith, Inc.
Att: Jennifer Hedtke
333 S. 7th St, Suite 1600
Minneapolis, MN 55402
(612) 692-7653 or (800) 328-4671 ext 7653
When does coverage begin?
Your coverage begins on the first day of the month following the date your completed application and initial premium are received by Delta Dental of Minnesota. The initial coverage period is for 12 months, after which time continued enrollment for another 12 months is automatic unless canceled in writing by you. Delta Dental guarantees not to change your premiums during the initial 12 months, and you agree to pay premiums on time. Only dental treatments begun and completed while coverage is in force are eligible for benefits.
How do I find an in-network dentist?
Use the dentist search to find a local dentist by selecting "Delta Dental PPO SM" or "Delta Dental Premier SM" Although both networks provide savings, your out-of-pocket costs may be lower if you visit a dentist in the Delta Dental PPO SM network.
Why is it important to see an in-network dentist?
When you see an in-network dentist, you have no paperwork to submit, receive maximum benefits and reduce your out-of-pocket costs because network dentists agree to accept our Maximum Amount Payable (MAP) as payment in full. However, you are always free to see any licensed dentist.
Are there any waiting periods?
There are no waiting periods for routine exams, cleanings and fluoride treatments. Depending on which plan you select, other covered services may have no waiting period, a three-month waiting period, a six-month waiting period or a 12-month waiting period. Please see our Plan Details for more information.
Is there any orthodontics coverage?
Yes, orthodontics coverage is optional coverage that can be added to your MSBA endorsed Dental Plan. It is available for covered dependent children only, age 8-18.
